neat programming note

Cool, I just found out that the POWER ISA (Instruction Set Architecture) specification has a programming note with a big excerpt from the Gulliver’s Travels (it’s in page 52 on v2.05 of the ISA) to explain where the terms “big endian” and “little endian” come from. 🙂

I knew it came from there, but I had never read the passage before. It’s very funny.

The big endians were people who believed that the “Way of breaking Eggs before we eat them was upon the larger End”, and the little endians believed that you should break your eggs upon the other end. Because of this difference, “a bloody War has been carried on between the two Empires for six and thirty Moons.”

So, which side are you on? 😉
